COPPER CANYON - SOFT HIKING

DAY 1: ARRIVE CHIHUAHUA

Once you arrive to the airport in CHIHUAHUA please take the airport transportation for your transfer to the hotel. Your tour guide will be at the hotel lobby with your travel documents and with information that you may need. Overnight at: PALACIO DEL SOL hotel or similar.

(Optional transfers between EL PASO TX and CHIHUAHUA are available, please call for information)

DAY 2: CHIHUAHUA(B) - CREEL(L)

At 09:30am you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to CREEL by private transportation for the beginning of your unforgettable Copper Canyon Journey. (The estimated transfer time from CHIHUAHUA to CREEL is 3 hours and 30 min.). Arrive at the lumber town of CREEL and transfer to your accommodation. The Western style, lumber and mining town of CREEL is the gateway to the most primitive and nomadic tribe of indians in North America, the Tarahumara. This afternoon we will ride through beautiful pine country, small canyons and Tarahumara indian ranchos to Cusarare Waterfall. Dinner on your own. Overnight at PUEBLO VIEJO hotel or similar.

DAY 3: RECOHUATA HOT SPRINGS(BP)

This morning we will drive for about a half hour to the rim of the Canyon, then we will hike down about 1,500 feet to the river. Play or soak for two or three hour in hot springs an river pools filled with warm water before we hike back up to the rim. Picnic lunch included by the hot springs. . Overnight.

DAY 4: CREEL(B) - DIVISADERO(D)

Morning at leisure. You will have time for exploring the Indian handicraft stores and the surrounding area of this mining town. 11:00am transfer to the train station. 11:30am Departure by train to POSADA BARRANCAS. (Lunch on board the train is not included in the package.) 1:15pm arrive at POSADA BARRANCAS, the most spectacular panoramic view in the Copper Canyon region. Overnight accommodation in the rustic MANSION TARAHUMARA hotel, only 600 yards from the rim of the canyon. Family-style meals are included during your stay here starting with dinner tonight. The views of the three Canyons (Tararecua,Urique and Barranca del Cobre) that comprise Copper Canyon, makes DIVISADERO (“The Divide”) an unforgettable stop on your trip across the mountains.

DAY 5: HIKING IN COPPER CANYON(BLD)

This morning after breakfast your local guide will lead the way as you descend about half way down the canyon passing Tarahumara Indian ranchos and incredible views of Urique Canyon. After a picnic lunch, packed by the hotel and a chance to rest you will start back to the rim for a family-style dinner and good night's rest at the hotel.

DAY 6: DIVISADERO BARRANCAS(BL) - CHIHUAHUA(D)

You may spend the rest of the morning at the hotel, trading and shopping with the Indians or taking an optional hike along the rim on your own. At 1:55pm you will board the train for your return trip to CHIHUAHUA. 09:00pm arrive at CHIHUAHUA and transfer to your accommodation at the HOTEL PALACIO DEL SOL or similar.

DAY 7: DEPARTURE(B)

Transfer from the hotel to the airport or bus station for your return trip.. End of our services.

The first and last night can be spent either in CHIHUAHUA or in LOS MOCHIS.

BOTTOM OF THE CANYON ADD-ON (3 nights; 2 days)

From CREEL travel to the bottom of the canyon along a narrow dirt road that winds its way past Indian villages and spectacular scenery to the remote pueblo of BATOPILAS.

From there it is possible to hike to “The lost Cathedral” and explore the many sights of this unique little mining town where time seems to have stopped.
