BATOPILAS, a 19th century silver mining town, is an excellent base from which to explore the Batopilas Canyon floor. The town is reached by a thrilling descent down twisting mountain roads starting at 2,338 feet and finishing at 495 feet above sea level. The views are breathtaking; the photo opportunities fantastic. Once at the bottom the climate becomes sub-tropical.
